Fashion Inspiration comes from the most common or unusual places.
Take as an example the Fall 2015/2016 Valentino Couture Collection.
Valentino Garavani founded his couture house in 1960 in Rome, fast becoming a legend in the fashion world, with a career
that spanned more than 50 years, sadly Valentino retired from fashion in 2008, Garavani grew bored with modern fashion and its oppressive business obsession.
The designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli created a collection that not only referenced Valentino’s heritage, but also the city and it’s ancient history where his Label flourished from.
There are ancient roman symbols across the whole collection, playing homage to the House of Valentino’s heritage.
From gladiators sandals, eagle embroidery on capes, roman inspired accessories, split skirts like the soldiers uniform worn to battle.
The shapes are also a reference to the roman empire, capes, short dresses and tunics recalling the vests worn by roman officials.
the creations are a lesson in history. Not only of Valentino’s history but that os the Roman Empire.
Gold, Black, Red and Deep Blue are the main colours used in he collection, special attention
to the red used, as it is one of Valentino’s trademark colour, a a reminder of Valentino’s legacy.
