Alexander Fury on the Making of His New Book, Dior: The Collections, 1947-2017 – Vogue

The National Gallery of Victoria is bringing to Melbourne an exhibition in celebration to the 70 years of the House of Dior, one of the world’s most prestigious couture houses.The exhibition The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture, the exhibition runs from the 27th of August to November 7th at the NGV International on St Kilda Rd.

Coincidentally Alexander Fury, fashion journalist, author and critic is launching his new book “Dior: The Collections, 1947-2017”. In the article below you can learn more about the book, author and subject, in preparation for the upcoming exhibition. It is fare to say that Christian Dior was more than a fashion designer, he made history right from his debut collection in 1947, aptly named the “New Look”,  since that first moment to today, the House of Dior has been associated with the most talented names in fashion, Yves Saint Lauren, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simmons and now Maria Grazia Chiuri, in constant renewal bringing stunning collection every year.

Louis Vuitton

The exhibition taking place in Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a building designed by the late architect Zaha  Hadid and Samoo, in Seoul.
The exhibition depicts the house of Louis Vuitton’s beginnings in 1854 to today, under the direction of Olivier Saillard, who is responsible for curating the event.
The exhibition is divided into 10 chapters or themes, from the house’s launch of the iconic Louis Vuitton trunk, taking the viewer into a journey though the history of this iconic French House.
Here you will see collaborations the Maison Luis Vuitton has forged with artists like, Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama  and others,  resulting in commercial success, with most bags ending up as coveted collector’s items.
Special attention to the Robert Carsen’s exhibition design, it is rich and evocative of the many phases the Maison Louis Vuitton has gone through, from the specially designed car interiors, to the ‘Out of Africa’  luggage and tents used in the intrepid expeditions, all in the inimitable Louis Vuitton style.
